Although the focus of this website is lesbian inclusive web series and short films, we do sometimes come across non-lesbian series that deserve to be mentioned. In this case, it’s not merely one web series, but a whole channel of originally scripted web series, short films and documentaries with women in the leading roles.

The WIGS channel appears to be the brainchild of Jon Avnet, the director of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whislestop Cafe, who has written and directed a number of the series, including Kendra, the series with a bisexual lead character. Actors involved in the various series include: Troian Bellisario, Jennifer Beals, Maggie Grace, Anna Paquin, Julia Stiles, Sarah Jones, America Ferrera and a host of others.

I haven’t had time to check out all the series available but the ones I have watched share excellent production values and great acting.

Cowgirl Up Season 2

It’s time to saddle up and ride out.  The second season of Cowgirl Up from Nancylee Myatt will be debuting on the tellofilms site Tuesday, June 18, 2013. You do need a subscription to tello to watch the season, however you can catch interviews with the cast for free as well as the teaser for the new season. And catch the recapaview of each episode here at APP.

While we do focus on web series, if you are planning on being in the New York City area sometime between June 5 and June 29th, 2013? You may want to catch the musical comedy, Lesbian Love Octagon. This is a lesbian themed play that was funded recently through an Indiegogo campaign and I would not be surprised if it someday served as a jump point for a web series. Check out the musical’s official YouTube channel as Felicia, one of the actresses in the musical, posted a web series called “Felicia Fridays” that follows the preparation for the musical. They are funny and worth the few minutes each one takes to watch.

Script Writing Tools

I want to thank The Writer’s Store for a great document about some basics of script writing and I recommend this overview as one of the many items you read when researching script writing. They host an online store as well as posting guides. You can review a page with the script writing products they sell.  Along with the many paid options for script writing help, there are also many online services, apps and free programs. Here are a few you may wish to examine, we’ll look at at these programs in more detail in later articles

Kam is on hiatus until mid summer, but there are Kam treats you can fill the time with, the Kam minisodes. These minisodes track Kam’s attempts at the activity known as speed dating. If you like character sketches and quick, snappy punchlines, I highly recommend these short dips into insanity. Also her BFF, Mary (who loves baby hotdogs) and her Intern, Joel (who looks like a Korean Justin Beiber), are along for the ride, their interactions are just the icing on this sweet cake. So jump in and grab the minisodes (just like the appetizers they are half off).

Legendary femslash writer, Inspector Boxer, discusses what it was like on set for the filming of The Nikki & Nora Files:

PP: How did you get involved with the Nikki & Nora Files?

IB: Kind of a long story. Nancylee Myatt, Nikki & Nora’s creator, was made aware of the fanfiction out there surrounding the pilot. I got a nice note from her at one point that initially scared the crap out of me when I saw it in my inbox. I thought for sure it would be a cease and desist note, but it wasn’t. It was just kind words from the creator that made my day. We continued to exchange emails after that, and I eventually began to do the promos for one of her other web series, Cowgirl Up. I have a background in film and television (spent nearly 15 years in local TV writing, producing, directing, and editing) so when the time came to assemble the crew for the N&N Files she asked me if I would be interested. Not being an idiot (most of the time), I immediately said yes.
