Nancylee Myatt talks about “Nikki & Nora” and the new web series “The N&N Files”.
When UPN and Warner Bros. rolled the dice on “Nikki & Nora” in 2004 it was one of the most exciting and important opportunities for me personally, as well as the GLBT community — A crime drama which focused on a lesbian couple. It was nowhere on the landscape and still isn’t. Sorry, I don’t count the “Rizzoli & Isles” relationship. I had a dream team in front of and behind the camera, many of who became my family of friends. Amazing and talented people like Liz Vassey and Christina Cox, who were willing to commit to something considered fringe at the time. But sadly the climate in the country dictated the pilot pick-ups that year and we were not put on the network schedule. Somewhere in the hallways and hard drives of studio offices a copy of the “Nikki & Nora” pilot was leaked to the world. It became the most downloaded/viewed un-aired pilot to date. It spawned thousands of pages of fan fiction and videos, and created a loyal community that still exists almost a decade later.
CUT TO: PRESENT DAY: The love of this project is still there. Liz and Christina and I have been talking about and pitching a re-boot of it for years. Only this time, we decided not to let the network machine decide our fate. So here we are using Indiegogo to help us fund “The N&N Files,” a webseries set in current day New Orleans, with the characters that we all fell in love with. This version reverts back to my original take on the series which was more of a lesbian “Nick and Nora” vs. a cop crime of the week show. Reminiscent of the lighter mystery shows that I grew up on — where we would go home with our characters and their personal life would be is as interesting as the messes they would clean up.
Thanks for helping us keep the party going with Nikki & Nora in New Orleans. We will keep you posted as we go, and we’re looking forward to bringing this community of fans and followers together again – and not in a creepy way like that new show, you know the one. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
